I graded to master rank
in 1995, since then I have been researching the hyungs in order to develop
the applications (Shil Ki (Korean)
or Bunkai (Japanese)),
within them, as well as looking at the basic techniques within Tang Soo Do
so as students can have a better understanding of what they are doing.
Our philosophy regarding Hyungs (forms) are as
follows:
 |
Beginner: Students must learn
the basics of the forms |
 |
Intermediate: Students must improve
their technical abilities and start to understand the applications |
 |
Advanced: Students must
understand all applications within Hyung and learn to put them into
practice |
We also teach the following weapons:

Tang Soo Do then and now.
In
the early years Tang Soo Do was taught much the same as any other
martial art, over the last 15, 20 years, more and more information has
been revealed about hyungs, people like Master
M Khan inspired me to research more about basics
and the hyungs we teach, we have researched the hyungs taught within
Tang Soo Do to understand what is really there, hidden within the
confines of the hyung format.
I
have been involved with martial arts for 34 years, and in that time
have seen many, many good instructors either stop training because
they failed to understand or appreciate what was there within hyung,
or if they did not finish then they threw away essential parts of
their art and ended up teaching what can only be regarded as sport
styles with no hyung or kata within their new syllabus.
I
looked and found what is truly there by listening to open minded
martial artists of various styles who were willing to share, and
people like Master M Khan and myself now
begin to see what can only be regarded as a very efficient close
quarter fighting system
I now
appreciate that even though people like myself who have been training
for over 30 years, that as long as we keep an open mind, we can still
learn, still benefit, and can still realize that we do not know
everything
..I look forward to learning more tomorrow.
TANG SOO.
Some of master
Green's favorite sayings:
 |
"Pain is only weakness leaving
the body" |
 |
"Its the heart and spirit inside the person that
makes them a master not the belt" |
 |
"If it does not hurt then it isn't going to
work" |
 |
"You are
not given anything in true traditional martial arts, you EARN
everything". |
 |
"Ego, biggest
destroyer in Traditional martial Arts" |
 |
"Humility,
one of the hardest lessons to learn, some people have it, MOST
people THINK they have it" |
 |
"Some people know everything, some people never stop learning, which
one are you" |

My
wife Denise, without her support I would not be where I am today,
there has been some bad times
and also a lot of good times, but she has always been there for me.
She earned
her rank as a 2nd Dan but had to step back because of illness, I could
not have done half of
what I have achieved without her help.
Thank
you Babes X |
